How We Farm

How We Farm

As local farmers who have produced and harvested agricultural products for many generations, we take great pride in being good stewards of the land. With a livelihood that depends on bountiful harvests, abundant flavor, and honest relationships with consumers, sustainable farming practices are our top priority. The use of safe and sustainable farming practices that preserve the environment, reduce waste, and promote healthy growing systems are a priority. Our focus is on producing the best quality products that are picked at their peak ripeness and maintaining the product’s freshness, and nutritional values. We strive to grow food for you in the most responsible way we know how. We are accountable for how we grow. We would love for you to be a part of this by eating local food, furthering our goal of building community through local agriculture.

We practice 100 percent no till farming and are in the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) Tier 3, have CREP acres and use cover crops in winter months to prevent soil erosion and recycle nutrients. We use precision farming on planters, sprayers and harvesting equipment to capitalize on the efficiency of technology in minimizing inputs and maximizing yields. We extensively use our Soil Conservation Plan and Nutrient Management Plan. In 2010 we built an Agriculture Chemical Handling Facility for watershed protection, security and farm and worker safety.

We practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM). This reliable method of farming is a way to control insect pests and diseases while protecting human health and the environment. Not all insects, weeds, and other living organisms require control. Many organisms are not harmful, and some even beneficial. IPM programs work to monitor pests and identify them accurately, so that appropriate decisions can be made in conjunction with action thresholds. This monitoring and identification removes the possibility that pesticides will be used when they are not needed.
